I think I’m just about ready to wrap up the holidays and start posting about January! (One day I’ll be all caught up…) The pictures below are some miscellaneous favorites from the season. Was the season hectic? Yes. Did I feel like my sanity was slipping away from me? Occasionally. Was it absolutely wonderful? Definitely.

During the holiday months not only did I get to do family photo sessions, I also had the opportunity to do a handful of newborn sessions as well. Ironically, all the newborns I photographed were girls! (I sure hope there are boys being born somewhere!) As I reflected on each newborn session, I realized that in every home I could feel an added measure of warmth and love. I think that comes with welcoming someone brand new into the world. I walked away from each session grateful to have been a part of such a special time for that family, and for the warmth and love I felt.     
Next up in my holiday recap: “Let’s here it for the boy[s]!” (Please excuse the Footloose reference… I couldn’t resist.) I love the energy that boys bring to a photo shoot. I never have to ask them twice to run, jump, or climb onto something (sometimes it’s getting them to stop that’s the challenge!). How about these studs, huh?         Well, it looks like writing my very first blog post didn’t kill me! In fact, I kind of enjoyed it. Enough so to do another blog post in less than 24 hours from the first! How about that!
Today, I thought I’d share some favorite photos of the girls I got to meet this holiday season. Girls are so wonderful to photograph. They’re generally very cooperative and easy to direct. Some of them even channel their inner model and really get into the idea of posing! Girls tend to have a sweet nature that shines through their eyes, and it’s amazing to see that captured in photographs. So take a look at some darling gals I got to photograph!         I won’t do it. Every single photographer has a blog. I won’t do it. It’s cliche. I won’t do it. I already upload photos to facebook. Why bother with a blog? I’ll find a whole new medium for posting photos that will be a million times more unique and creative than a blog or facebook!
I convinced myself that my opposition to blogging was on the grounds that blogging didn’t allow me to express myself or display my work in a way that separated me from other photographers. I was sure that I’d discover some untapped resources that would brilliantly showcase my photos to the world. I’d wow the masses with my creativity, with my uniqueness, and success would be mine!
Truth be told, the real reason I’ve shied away from blogging is because I didn’t feel I could meet the expectations of photography blog readers- the dazzling designs, the witty writing, the magazine worthy photos… Oh, the pressure!
Finally, I got real with myself. I came to the conclusion that not doing something because everyone else is doing it is just as bad as doing something because everyone is doing it. Either way, the end result is an action (or lack there of) determined by others. I needed to look at blogging objectively and determine for myself whether or not the cons outweighed the pros. Well, they didn’t. (Although I’m still looking for a way to wow the world!) Great though my realization may have been, it did nothing to alleviate my initial anxieties. I work from home… from my kitchen table to be more exact. That hardly puts me in league with the big-gun photographers who actually have studios and offices! I can’t even afford someone to help me develop the blog of my dreams, let alone afford a studio or office. Don’t even get me started on the painstaking effort it takes me to come up with one witty comment! The point is, I feel like a 12 year-old adolescent complete with braces, a Great Clips haircut, and a bad overbite stepping in to compete in the Miss America competition. It’s overwhelming, daunting, and totally exposing. The only solace I find is that maybe, just maybe, I’ll look back adoringly at the little 12 year-old, grateful that she took a shaky step onto the stage.
Now, enough with all the introspection and self realization- on to photos! I had a wonderful holiday season for my business. The clients I had the opportunity to work with were, in a word, amazing! I could not have asked for kinder group of people to work with during my first season in Texas. There’s no way I can possibly show all of my favorite photos in one post. So, I’ve decided to break it up into categories. Today I’ll show just some of my favorite family photos from the season. Enjoy!
