Lately, I feel like my creativity has been stifled a bit. It’s just too easy to put my need to create on the back-burner while in the midst of motherhood, pregnancy, running a business, etc. But my creativity is important to me. Any time I do something, even if it’s just a little bit creative, it’s like I come out of a fog I didn’t even know I was in.
Ergo, I decided to give myself a challenge. I decided to do a little themed shoot with my daughter each week between now and the end of the year. Honestly, I don’t know if I’ll be able to do it… or if my daughter will be up for it! But that’s the point of a challenge, right?
Right. So for my first themed shoot, I decided to do a “Country Girl” theme. One of the first things I had to decide was the location. First, I started coming up with words that I associated with a “country” location. Here were some of the words I came up with: open, long grass, leaves, rugged, leaves, and trees. I took those words and started looking for possibilities as I was driving or walking around throughout the day. It wasn’t too hard to find possibilities because of where we live. I made a list, and at the very top of my list was this spot I found with a green, abandoned tractor. I loved how the tractor matched the rugged, rural feel I wanted from the location. It also had long grass. Cha-ching!
I also chose an old schoolyard for a second location. It’s near the tractor, which was a definite plus since working with a toddler means working in a very limited time frame. The leaves of the trees at the schoolyard are also gorgeous right now which I felt complimented the vision I had in mind. Here are a couple of shots that show off the locations.
